		<description>Rickie,
We actually do a lot of carp fishing in the area. It is one of our favorite things to do in the summer when the trout fishing is slow. We fish a lot of rivers that are full of trout smallmouth, carp and redhorse. I keep rods rigged for all situations. We have a few places in early spring that are shallow and hundreds of carp tail like redfish. Where are you located and what kind of fishing do you normally do? If I were going to spend time carp fishing then I would get a good 7 or 8 weight rod, a reel with a good drag system, a heavy weight forward line and strong leaders, preferably mono so you can get a little stretch. Fly wise I would stick with small craw patterns and rubberlegged nymphs. Really rubberlegged anything. Throw about a foot or two ahead of the fish and past him, then drag it in front of them so not to spook. It takes a lot of practice and even more patience. If you are interested, we do offer carp fishing trips. These fish are spooky and have great senses, so hooking up with them is hard and frustrating at times, but it is worth it when your drag starts screaming. Let me know if these tactics help and please contact us for more info. Great to talk to another carp enthusiast.
