Trout fishing still good, despite low water

The fishing on the tailwaters has been great and the fish are healthy along with plenty of bug activity which still gets us a decent dry fly bite some days. We could use a little generation on the Holston to clear out some of the grass and cool the water off a bit but we’re not complaining, heck it could be high water and then we couldn’t fish it at all. The Clinch stays cold through the summer making it a better choice than the Holston once it gets too warm, but both have been good lately. The fish are strong, have a lot of color and will give you a run for your money.

Jay and Rana were in complete rhythm

The fishing has been good lately in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The only problem might be low water and it hasn’t affected them too bad. The fish are still taking dry flies just fine and there are still some sulphurs and yellow sallies flying around, but the terrestrial bite has been really good. Hiking back to the higher elevations has helped out with finding willing fish as it usually does this time of year due to warm weather. You still want to stay low and wear dull/nature colors to blend in. Be careful though because the snakes are out and about and the bears have been active.

Kevin and Ken could boulder hop with the best of them.

June can be a lot of fun here in East TN with plenty of options to choose from, whether it’s trout or smallmouth bass. Both are a lot of fun and we have plenty of them around with plenty of rivers to fish. Give us a call if you’re going to be in the area and want to get away from the crowds for a bit and see a side of East TN that most don’t get to see. Take care and have a great day.
